Update #3 | Light at the End of the Tunnel

It’s been quite some time since our last update. Wedding season took over our lives, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. September came and went, October was a blur, but now that things are slowing down, we want to share what we’ve been up to! Our goal is to be moved out by Winter, so we have enlisted the help of some professionals to expedite the building process. Currently they’re working on the flooring, storage in our staircase, and the window casing and trim. Yet to be completed is the painting, bathroom tiling, the ceiling, and a few other miscellaneous projects.

The most common question we are asked is where we plan on putting our home. Well we thought we had a space lined up earlier this year, but unfortunately the plans have fallen through, so we are back at square one. It really is a bummer (not to mention nerve-wracking) being so close to the end without a set place to go. Ideally, we would like to rent from someone with land attached to their house so that we can hook to the water and electric. We would prefer “rural” areas such as Ross, Harrison, or Oxford (as I commute to Downtown Hamilton daily), but we are open to all different areas in the tri-state. We are not looking for much– just a small piece of land to put our home while we save up for land of our own in the future. We may not have our flooring or even our insulation, but #sweetpeamarie and I are pretty excited about our new rug. #casafreytinyhome A photo posted by Ashley Rockey Frey ♡ (@ashley.tireswing.rockey) on

One drawback in our building process was the breaking and entering that occurred. Someone came into the house through a window one night and stole our chop saw along with other valuables. We set out the next morning to install a security system to find that the person had attempted to break in again, damaging part of the outside of our home!! Other neighbors reported having items stolen as well (including my mom who had a package taken off her front porch) around the same time a person moved in with our neighbor. We approached the neighbor who we believe is [still] housing the thief, and since then the burglary has thankfully subsided. Just another reason we’d like to finish and move our house out of the area.

So what is the inside of our house going to look like? Daniel and I have little no interior decorating experience, so we I headed to Pinterest for a little “pinsperation.”

Styles that we are most drawn to:
Eclectic
Farmhouse
Cottage
Industrial

How we plan on incorporating such styles:
Eclectic (patterns and textures and plants)
Farmhouse/Cottage/Artisan (white and wood)
Industrial (gold/brass tones)

With a space so small we don’t want to feel cramped in our home. So we felt the white and wood look with pops of texture and patterns would suit us best.

Here’s some inspiration for each room:

Still lots of work to be done, but hopefully our next update will be the big reveal! This definitely isn’t like the tv show with a dozen skilled workers building the house all day and night. We’re two inexperienced people that have relied so much on the help and generosity of others.
