Update #2 | Easier Said Than Done… Our Tiny Home

Building a house is hard. Simply stated. Last week truth hit us with the reality that progress isn’t as fast as we’d like and budgets are always undervalued. We thought we would fly through the week and be almost live-in ready by Sunday. That’s not the case. And it’s silly looking back thinking that was even possible. It reminds me of when we first bought a dslr camera. We went to a camera store that day and asked the sales associate where we could buy a yellow filter to put over our lens. We were without a doubt sure that if we placed a yellow filter over our lens all of our pictures would look “vintage” and in fact, that’s what all other photographers do to capture great photos. Embarrassment and laughter follow that memory now, but we all have to start somewhere. This is all so new to us, and each day seems to bring about its own pocket of learning experiences. We underestimated, and although it is a let down, it’s not a set back.

I’d be lying if I said this has been an all-around enjoyable process. We’ve been blessed with a flourishing photography business that takes the reigns and forefronts of our minds most days as we blaze through our busiest season yet. Frustration and tension run high at times, but we reconnect daily over a shower head we love or the flooring we want or even our “sexy” siding. Haha. It’s the little things in life (pun not intended).

Daniel’s dad came into town again last week. With him as the driving force we officially have a front door and windows. Our box is starting to look like a home!! We are currently working on finishing the siding and getting everything exactly laid out as far as appliances, lighting, cooling and heating, etc. Once that is complete, the next steps are the electric and plumbing, then the insulation and drywall. No one is more eager to move in than we are, so we are using that drive to push us through the next few months of hard work.

ALSO, we met other local tiny homers last week!! Tabatha and Noah made us (and Sweet Pea) feel very welcome in their humble abode– not to mention the food and good conversation had over the fire! We regret not taking any pictures of our meet-up, but we’ll return the favor once we are settled into our place :)

As always, these are mostly phone shots and some dslr photos of our progress thus far:
